Life is only lived in full when you embrace love and despair together. This is Annie’s life. She lives with her mother and has a dream to become a performing artist ¬ like her father. Annie’s mother doesn’t want that, perhaps due to a failed relationship with her husband. Annie pushes on and leaves her mother to become an artist. Her mother cannot bear this loss. Over many years of separation, her body withers away. When Annie returns, she finds her mother paralysed. She tries to revive her through one last performance and is able to confide her feelings to her at last. But perhaps it’s too late...

Directors's message:

We want our lives to be beautiful and happy. We dread misery, and embrace

comfort. A day full of despair makes us question life, while a day full of of love

makes us enjoy life. There is no soul on earth who hasn’t experienced sadness,

almost as often as happiness, if not more. Yet, we seem to be averse to grief and

separation and desire love and union.

Life is imperfect - by its very essence. Like a heaving sea wave, it has ups and

downs. Life can only be fully experienced when you see that love and despair are

meant to be together, not separate.

Wabi Sabi is the story of an imperfect relationship where two loving souls go through life’s journey to find it’s real meaning that pain, sadness and longing are as much a part of life as love, affection and kindness.

It is the story of a mother and daughter who finally accept each other as they are - full of imperfections, yet beautiful.
